Description

The ISC Reflex is a revolutionary mechanical friction device for climbing. It allows mid-line attachment and precise friction control, simplifying climbing and rope technique.

REFLEX Mechanical Friction Device: Revolutionary Climbing Technology

The REFLEX Mechanical Friction Device is a mid-line attachable unit! The days when you had to thread the entire length of rope through the device, before or during your climb, are over!

The REFLEX is designed to offer precise friction control with a gradual release of friction. It combines the familiar feel of a rope-lock descender with the versatility of a mid-line attachable mechanical unit.

The REFLEX body is fitted with a safety-locking swing frame and L-shaped links. This means the rope can be inserted into the body and then wound spirally around and into (rather than threaded through) each link. The top link is fitted with a catch that keeps the rope securely held in the links during use.

Advantages of Mid-line Attachment

Being able to attach the device mid-rope is advantageous because climbers do not need to pull through the entire length of rope to install/remove the rope at the start of, or at any time during, the climb. This is especially useful when using rope with bulky labels at the ends, which would otherwise need to be cut off, removing the rope's identity/traceability information.

Mid-line attachment is also a "game-changer" when it comes to offering more options for passing branches and switching systems up in the canopy!

Whether used in MRT (Moving Rope Technique) or SRT (Stationary Rope Technique) systems, the links on the REFLEX enable consistent friction control, with no need for additional friction equipment. This means the REFLEX can be used for SRT without the need for a Wrench & Tether! This is ideal for climbers who want to keep their system simple and compact and enables easy feeding of slack.

For those who prefer to use the REFLEX with an additional APEX and FLEX Tether, the REFLEX has attachment openings that enable versatile configuration options, as well as quick and easy transitions between different set-ups.

The 200 kg rated rescue load allows climbers to perform rescues without having to build in extra friction. If desired, an APEX & FLEX Tether can be added to offer additional friction for even easier control.

Other Features

  • CE certified to EN 12841, on EN 1891-A ø11-13 mm rope.
  • The links on the REFLEX adjust to give consistent friction across the whole rope range, without having to adjust settings.
  • Removable & replaceable swivel: The swivel eye can be removed from the unit through a sequence of deliberate actions. This allows quick disconnection without having to dismantle the climbing system or bridge set-up. Ideal for lunch breaks or when you quickly need to fetch more equipment at the vehicle. The removable swivel also gives more options for branch passing and means the swivel eye can easily be replaced when it becomes worn.
  • The swivel eye is shaped to accommodate two carabiners. Alternatively, up to two bridge ropes can be threaded directly through the eye to achieve a compact system.
  • The REFLEX offers self-tending and low-friction ascent, with several choices of tow positions.
