Silky — Japanese Hand Saws for Arborists
Manufactured in Ono, Japan, Silky has been setting the standard for what a hand saw can do since 1919. The teeth are ground to a pull-cut, the blades are hard-chrome plated against sap, and the scabbards hold their shape for a full workday. That's why arborists worldwide carry Silky at their belt.
At Arboristbutiken, you'll find the full professional range: sheath saws, folding pocket saws, pole saws for high branches, and Silky's chopping and splitting axe, Nata.
Sheath Saws: Zubat, Tsurugi, and Sugoi
The sheath saw is the saw an arborist carries up in the tree. The most common choice is the Silky Zubat Professional with a curved 330 mm blade and progressive teeth. If you want a lighter pull saw, the Silky Tsurugi Curve is the right choice, with a narrow blade and good scabbard design. The Silky Sugoi is the heaviest of the three and handles branches up to 12 cm without complaint.
Folding Pocket Saws: Pocket Boy, Gomboy, Bigboy, and Super Accel
When the saw needs to fit in your pocket or harness, folding saws are the solution. The Pocket Boy is the classic, short and compact, named Best in Test several years in a row. The Gomboy 300mm has medium-coarse teeth for both green and dry wood. The Bigboy Curve Extra Large is the folding saw that can truly replace a chainsaw on very large branches. The Super Accel is lightweight and saws quickly, popular among outdoor enthusiasts and bushcrafters.
Pole Saws: Silky Hayauchi, Longboy, and Forester
For branches you can't reach from the ground: The Silky Hayauchi telescopic pole saw is available in 3.7 m, 4.9 m, and 6.3 m, and is probably the most widely used pole saw among Swedish arborists. The Longboy is the foldable version, easier to transport. The Forester is available in 3 m and 4.5 m and is suitable for those working in the garden or at the forest edge.
Chopping and Splitting Axe: Silky Nata
The Silky Nata 240mm is a double-bevelled axe that splits, cuts, and chops equally well. It can withstand more than most bushcraft knives.
Replacement Blades and Accessories
Most Silky models have interchangeable blades. You buy the saw once and maintain it with a new blade when the teeth are dull. We have replacement blades for all models, plus accessories like Silky leg straps and the Hook Fox for pole saws.
Why Arborists Choose Silky
Two things: the steel and the tooth design. Silky's MIRAI steel is harder than the steel in competing saws, which means the edge lasts longer. The progressive tooth design (where the teeth increase in size from handle to tip) means the saw bites into the wood on its own, so you don't need to push to make it cut. The result is faster cuts with less effort.
